Hudson Yards: A New York Destination

On Sunday, March 27, 2022, Ronnie and I went to NYC and visited Hudson Yards located at West 30th street on the Lower West Side of Manhatten. I had read about this extravagant project that had been languishing due to COVID-reduced visitorship. That has changed now that the City is opening up. We noted lots of people still wearing masks!

If you are in NYC, I highly recommend a visit, even for a couple of hours. Below are two Google Maps shots showing the location of Hudson Yards, and some of the attactions. The photos I am posting are all HDR photos – merged from five separate exposures.

The Vessel

The vessel is the calling card of Hudson Yards. It is omnious in its stature and reminds me of an M.C. Escher drawing. It seems to be made of copper. There were people mulling around by the Vessel which was closed to the public. We investigagted the closure and found several articles in the New York TImes of people commiting suicide from atop the Vessel. Such a shame.

The Shed

The Shed is an art gallery near the Vessel. It is shown below. We did not have time to visit it on this trip.

Hudson Yards

It was cold outside so we ventured into the buiding on the left, called the Hudson Yards. It is full of high-end retailers, the most famous and luxurious on the ground floor, the others on the higher floors.

We took the elevator to the 5th floor and saw this beautiful staircase which was part of a retaurant.

I snapped a photo because it was so lovely.

Wild Ink Restaurant

We made our way to the Wild Ink Restaurant which is an Asian Fusion restaurant. We had two dishes: Seared Yellowtail Tuna and Smoked Hamachi Pastrami. We shared these taste treats, and by the way, the pastrami refers to the seasoning, because it was actually a fish dish with the seasoning making it tast like pastrami.

We also ordered a delicious Japanes Sake called “Kaze no Mori” which translates to “Wind of the Woods”. Ironicaly, it is imported by the Floating Worlds company located in Santa Fe, New Mexicio.

Ronnie took a photo of me in a pensive mood and one of the Vessel and the rail yard below.

In conclusion, we had a very pleasant outing to Hudson Yards, a great lunch, and then we were off to the Lunt Fontaine Theater for the perfomance of the The Tina Turner Show.
